Ronald Davis was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden and confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as the 12th Director of the United States Marshals Service (USMS), a position he held from September 2021 to January 2025.
As Director, Mr. Davis led the nation’s oldest federal law enforcement agency, overseeing a workforce of more than 10,000 professionals—including approximately 5,500 deputy marshals and administrative personnel, and over 5,000 special deputized court security officers.
From 2013 to 2017, Mr. Davis served as Director of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), In 2015, President Barack Obama appointed him Executive Director of the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing.
Mr. Davis brings over 28 years of local law enforcement experience. He served with the Oakland Police Department for 20 years rising to the rank of Captain. In 2005, he was appointed Chief of Police for the City of East Palo Alto, California, serving more than eight years.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University.
