Saturday, October 18, 2025
9:30 AM - 10:30 AM MT
Location: Mile High Ballroom 4EF, Colorado Convention Center
This course offers an overview of industry standards, legal considerations, and liability issues for agencies that currently employ—or are considering the use of—wellness, comfort, or therapy dogs. These animals serve a purpose far beyond being friendly companions; they are integral to agency operations and require thoughtful implementation. The term Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) K9 has been trademarked to reflect the specialized role these dogs play in supporting law enforcement and public safety personnel. Drawing on extensive experience in K9 handling within law enforcement, the course addresses key topics including case law, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) compliance, Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) requirements, and the broad spectrum of liabilities associated with managing a K9 team.
Attendance for this session is restricted to sworn law enforcement officers only.
