    Leveling the Playing Field: The Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in Smaller and Midsized Agencies

    The rapid development of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) is providing law enforcement agencies of all sizes with new tools to support operations, training, and administrative functions. The expanding capabilities of GenAI serve as a democratizing force, particularly for mid-sized and smaller agencies. However, this expansion is not without challenges. As data systems become increasingly digitized, commercially available GenAI solutions are proliferating. Open GenAI platforms lower barriers to entry but raise significant privacy and security concerns. In contrast, closed systems offer greater safeguards but may be prohibitively expensive for many agencies. This session will explore the benefits and challenges of GenAI for mid-sized and small law enforcement agencies, offering guidance to leaders on how to effectively manage and implement these emerging technologies.
