Brandon Russell has served as Chief of Police for the Derby Police Department since June 2023. His law enforcement career includes roles at WSU Police, the CIA, and the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves (Counter-Intelligence). Rising through the ranks from Officer to Deputy Chief, Chief Russell focuses on team building, employee development, and succession planning. He is committed to fostering a healthy work-life balance and a culture where officers feel valued and heard. Under his leadership, the department has adopted a more intentional focus on its values, public image, and performance. With the shift in focus the department has seen increased retention and recruiting. He holds a B.S. in Criminal Justice from WSU and is a graduate of the Kansas Police Administrators Seminar, Central States LEEDS, and Northwestern’s School of Police Staff and Command.
