Director - Victim Services Unit
Colorado State Patrol
Golden, Colorado, United States
Dolores Poeppel is the Director of the Colorado State Patrol’s Victim Services Unit and has been employed by the Colorado State Patrol for 47 years. Dolores created the Victim Services Unit 34 years ago when she identified that people injured or killed in a motor vehicle crash weren’t recognized as victims of crime.
In addition to the Director, a team of eight victim advocates offers direct, in-person services to those affected by crime incidents occurring on Colorado highways.
Dolores Poeppel serves as a mentor and subject matter expert in serving victims of traffic crashes, a population of victims who are oftentimes overlooked and underserved. Most recently, Dolores has created an opportunity to provide financial assistance for victims of motor theft crimes in Colorado. This one-of-a kind program is available to Colorado residents to assist victims financially and to bring awareness regarding the frequency and hazards regarding auto theft crimes.
