Lt. Colonel Joshua Downing began his career with the Colorado State Patrol in July 1998. He has worked in Troop 1A Golden, Colo and Troop 3A Weld County. He was promoted to Sergeant and then Captain both in the Hazardous Materials Section. Doowning was promoted to Major in Staff Services Branch, and served as the Commander of the Training Services Branch. On February 1, 2018, Downing was promoted to Lt. Colonel.
Lt. Colonel Downing is a graduate of the Administrative Officers Course at the Southern Police Institute. He is a Graduate of the PERF's Senior Management Institute for Police, he is a member of the IACP Roadway Safety Committee, the Chair of the Colorado Task Force for Drunk and Impaired Driving, he has also served as an instructor for the Leadership in Police Organizations (LPO) program, and the chairman for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance Level VI program.
Lt. Colonel Downing is a Colorado native and married with two children, one of which recently became a Colorado State Trooper serving in Adams County Colorado. He enjoys spending time with his Grandson, his family, friends and spending time enjoying all aspects of what Colorado has to offer outdoors.
