Timothy J. Cruz has served as the District Attorney of Plymouth County in Massachusetts since 2001 and is the current President of the National District Attorney’s Association. Cruz brings his vast legal experience to this national organization with a goal to put victims at the forefront of the criminal justice system, while simultaneously developing innovative prevention strategies for safer cities and towns.
In 2023, DA Cruz created the pioneering Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program. This program pairs comfort dogs with handlers at local police departments to assist with efforts in identifying and treating those impacted by anxiety, mental illness, and drug related disorders. Under DA Cruz’s watch, the Plymouth County Comfort Dogs Program continues to grow. The program has made a tremendous impact helping the vulnerable in our communities.
Additionally, Bridgewater State University is conducting a study of the Plymouth County Comfort Dog Program, evaluating performance measures of the program’s effectiveness in enhancing resilience and supporting students and community members.
