Mark G. Stainbrook is the Chief of Police of the City of Beverly Hills. Previously, he was the Chief of the San Diego Harbor Police Department.
Mark retired as a lieutenant from the L.A.P.D. and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
Mark retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Marine Corps Reserve. Mark’s personal awards include the Navy-Marine Corps Medal for heroism, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. While serving in Iraq in 2003, Mark was tasked to reconstitute Iraqi police units in Baghdad.
Mark graduated with honors from California State University, Long Beach, with a master’s in public policy administration. As a Fulbright fellow at Leeds University, Mark was also seconded to the West Yorkshire Police Force.
Mark deployed with the U.S. State Department to Kenya, Chad, Nepal, India, and Thailand to train their police forces on counterterrorism, criminal intelligence, and community policing methods.
The San Diego Crime Commission selected Mark as the 2019 County Law Enforcement Official of the Year. In 2025, Mark received the prestigious Joe T. Molloy Award from the California Police Chiefs Association.
