Stan Hilkey is the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety, serving since 2014 in the Cabinets of Governor Hickenlooper and Governor Polis.
The Department has 6 divisions: The Division of Criminal Justice, Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Bureau of Investigation, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Division of Fire Prevention and Control and the Executive Director’s Office that also houses the Colorado Office of School Safety and the Colorado Integrated Criminal Justice Information System.
Prior to 2014, Stan served 28 years in the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office in Western Colorado, elected to three terms as the Sheriff.
He graduated from the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management In Policing (SMIP) in Boston, MA in 2010, FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA, in 2004 and from the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command in 2001. Stan, a Colorado native, has been a POST certified peace officer in Colorado since 1986.
