Chief Fred Farris began his career in 1990 with the Kansas City, Mo Police Department and served several assignments including Patrol, Narcotics and Traffic Enforcement. In 1995 he was hired by the Lenexa (KS) Police Department and during his 22 years with Lenexa PD he worked in Patrol, Traffic Enforcement, Training, SWAT and Investigations.
In August of 2017, he was appointed as the Chief of Police for the City of Goddard, KS, a suburb of Wichita and served as the Training Committee Chair for the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police .
In 2021 he was appointed Chief of Police for the Gladstone Police Department a KC suburb and serves as the President of the Metro Chiefs and Sheriffs Association.
He has served on several committees and work groups to include the NTOA SWAT Standards committee, and various NIJ Technical Working Groups. He has been a course developer and instructor for the NTOA and IACP in patrol and tactical operations. He has worked as a Subject Matter Expert for the Department of Justice, largely assisting agencies with policy, pattern, and practice development and sits as the co-chair on the Patrol and Tactical Operations Committee for the IACP.
