Deputy Chief Brian Evans serves as the Commander of the Knoxville Police Department’s Field Operations Bureau, overseeing all of the department's uniformed patrol operations.
A 27-year KPD veteran, Evans was promoted to Deputy Chief in March 2024. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Chief, Evans served a long stint as the commander of the West District. He also served as a commander within the Office of Professional Standards. In that role, he helped lead a comprehensive revamp of what was previously known only as the Internal Affairs Unit into a professional standards model.
Prior to his promotion to the command ranks of the KPD, Evans served the department in a variety of roles and assignments, including as a motors officer supervisor in the Department's Motor Unit and as the Traffic Services Coordinator.
Evans is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 285, PERF’s Senior Management Institute for Police, the Southeastern Command and Leadership Academy, and Leadership Knoxville. He also teaches a variety of criminal justice topics as an adjunct professor.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational management and a master’s degree in criminal justice.
