Inspector Mark Wachter is the Commanding Officer of the NYPD Health and Wellness Section, dedicated to improving officer well-being via new monitoring and outreach programs. He has overseen the implementation and expansion of critical Department-wide programs including a 400 person peer support program, critical incident debriefings, Therapy K9 dog program, finest care, suicide prevention training, resilience education, mental health outreach, fitness and nutritional counseling, financial literacy and retirement planning. His initiatives include launching a Health and Wellness App, , and a 30-part online wellness training series for 55,000 members, focused on reducing mental health stigma. In 2024, Inspector Wachter joined the IACP National Consortium on Preventing Law Enforcement Suicide and the FBI’s Suicide Data Collection Task Force. He has presented on law enforcement wellness at the IACP and is certified as an ABLE instructor by Georgetown University and the NYPD. He holds a Bachelor's in Criminal Justice from John Jay College and is a graduate of the Police Management Institute at Columbia University.
