Newark Public Safety Collaborative
Dr. Alejandro (Alex) Gimenez Santana is an Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at Rutgers University–Newark’s School of Criminal Justice and Executive Director of the Newark Public Safety Collaborative (NPSC) at Rutgers University. He leads efforts to advance community safety solutions for crime prevention that integrate place-based data analysis with civic engagement. Dr. Santana has been featured by the U.S. Department of Justice and various national and international media outlets. Before NPSC, Dr. Santana was a consultant for the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, and the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR), advising on community safety solutions. With over a decade of experience developing tailored community safety solutions, he has presented in more than a dozen countries and works to bridge the gap between research and practice. He holds an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Global Affairs from Rutgers and is committed to developing inclusive, evidence-based public safety solutions.
