Deborah Meader, a Senior Policy Advisor with the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of Justice, leads BJA’s robust officer safety and wellness portfolio - the VALOR Initiative, the largest program of its kind, nationally. Her work brings no-cost training, assistance, and resources to U.S. law enforcement. Ms. Meader has 20+ years building knowledge and relationships in the law enforcement and safety and wellness fields. Ms. Meader also leads BJA’s Mass Violence Advisory Initiative, Body-Worn Camera Program and Crime Analyst in Residence Program. Her specialized experience guides, designs, and implements innovative, research based, and field-enhancing programs for law enforcement. Prior to BJA, she worked for Lockheed Martin, supporting the National Institute of Justice’s Office of Science and Technology with the management of projects focused on research, development, and dissemination of state-of-the-art tech for state and local law enforcement. Ms. Meader began her professional career as a police officer with the Montgomery County (MD) Police Department, after earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland.
