Peter joined the New Zealand Police in July 1979. He has spent most of his career in investigations managing covert groups targeting drug offenders, investigating child and adult sexual assault matters, and homicides.
In 2010 he was appointed the territorial Detective Superintendent for Wellington and the South Island.
He has been the SIO for the Pike River Mine investigation, the Criminal investigation to determine culpability into the building collapses that caused deaths in the Christchurch Earthquake and the Christchurch Mosque shooting in 2019.
In March 2023 Peter commenced a role as the SLO for Canada and the America’s based in Washington DC. Peter has joined the IACP is serving member on the CoT, is a member of the PERF, ILEA and other LE and liaison officers groups based in Washington DC. Peter has also established wide ranging relationships with Police organisations and agencies from a number of countries throughout the America’s, Asia and Europe in order to enhance information sharing and co-operation in relation to combating transnational organised crime.
In 2022 Peter was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit in the Queens New Years Honours.
