California Highway Patrol
Dr. Gary Tamkin is the statewide Medical Director for the California Highway Patrol, and SWAT physician for the Merced County Sheriff's Office. Dr. Tamkin is Vice President for Provider Development of US Acute Care Solutions, a physician staffing company that employees 6,000 physicians, serves 500 hospitals, and treats over 10 million patients per year. He is a former volunteer Associate Clinical Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. He chairs Common Spirit Health’s National Emergency Services Clinical Council, serves on the California Hospital Association’s EMS & Trauma Advisory Group and served as the President of the California Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Dr. Tamkin earned a bachelor’s degree with Honors in Community Health from Brown University and his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine College of Medicine. He completed his residency at the Department of Emergency Medicine, Highland General Hospital, University of California San Francisco, where he was Chief Resident and President of the California Emergency Medicine Resident’s Association.
