Elizabeth Reyes began her career with the City of Los Angeles in 1999 as a Legal Clerk at the City Attorney’s Office before joining the LAPD in 2001. She has served in a variety of assignments, including five years with the Mental Evaluation Unit (MEU), where she developed her passion for crisis response while earning her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Criminal Justice.
Promoted to Detective in 2014, she worked in Hollywood Area and later investigated complex cases at the Abused Child Unit, Threat Management Unit, and Internal Affairs. In 2019, she returned to MEU as a Supervisor and now serves as Officer-in-Charge of the MEU Training Unit at the rank of Detective III.
Detective Reyes oversees the LAPD’s in-service mental health training programs and related policies, including the 40-hour Mental Health Intervention Training (MHIT), delivered 25 times annually. As a Peer Support member, she integrates wellness into training and advocates for reducing stigma around mental health. In 2025, she was appointed to the Board of the International Co-Responder Alliance (ICRA), where she is honored to help strengthen and expand the impact of co-responder teams worldwide.
