Chief
Oxnard Police Department
Oxnard, California, United States
Jason Benites has served with the Oxnard Police Department in California since November of 1993, and has been in the Chief’s role since December of 2020. Prior to becoming Chief, he served as a Commander for three years, and as an Assistant Chief for fourteen years, overseeing all three of his department’s bureaus during that time.
For the past twenty-two years, Jason has been involved with management responsibilities related to personnel matters, including internal affairs investigations, disciplinary recommendations, imposing disciplinary action, as well as appeals processes, including arbitration. Jason, along with three other police executives, recognized what they believed to be an unmet training need for police chiefs, and collaborated to develop an eight-hour Police Executives and the Administration of Disciplinary Action course. The course made its debut in April of 2025.
His prior education includes a history degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is a 2008 graduate of the California POST Command College, and has been serving on the California Police Chiefs Association’s board of directors since September of 2021.
