Dr. Marva Dawkins obtained her PhD from Florida State University. It was during her internship that she fell in love with the people and city of Chicago. she decided to stay. In her ear;y carrer, she worked in low-income communities on the city’s south and west side, where she developed programs and provided mental health services to community residents..
Dr. Dawkins is also known for her work as a forensic psychologist where she has been involved in many high-profile criminal cases.
Her work in police psychology began in the early 1980s. Since that time, she has conducted numerous psychological evaluations of police candidates and incumbent police officers. She has been a consultant to police departments and has presented papers in the professional community in the field of police psychology.
She is Board Certified in Police and Public Safety Psychology.
She continues to be involved in training, mentoring and program development hoping to inspire another generation of professionals to be prepared for the challenges they will face in the 21st century particularly in law enforcement and public safety.
