Officer Derek Harrington is a 10 year veteran of the Hanson, MA Police Department. He has served as the departments School Resource Officer for their Regional High School, Middle School, and Elementary School since 2019. He is an ALICE instructor and trains the Whitman-Hanson Regional School District on ALICE and additional safety & security protocols. Officer Harrington is a certified Massachusetts Police Training Council Instructor and currently instructs CPR & First Responder classes for new recruits. He also serves on the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Peer Support Team. Officer Harrington has worked with the Plymouth County District Attorney to implement the first Comfort Dog program in Plymouth County and for the Hanson Police Department. His Comfort Dog, Ziva, is a 3 year old English Cream Golden Retriever and obtained several certifications, including AKC Advanced CGC Certification and passed her Public Access Test.
Officer Harrington serves as the Co-Lead Officer for the Plymouth Country Comfort Dog Program and holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice from Bridgewater State University.
