Major George Perera is the Commander of the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Cyber Crimes Bureau as well as the South Florida Cyber Crime Task Force, one of the largest in the country. Perera is the co-chair the IACP Computer Crimes and Digital Evidence Committee and is the LEIT past Chair. For the Department of Homeland Security and IACP, he is an internationally recognized subject matter expert and is a member of or chairs multiple Cyber Security Working Groups as well as AI working groups. He is frequently called upon by the DHS as well as the IACP to participate in policy related forums and for speaking engagements. Perera has spoken all over the country and internationally on the criminal use of artificial intelligence. He has earned a Bachelor of Science from Florida International University, a Master’s degree in Public Administration at Lynn University, and a Master’s degree in Security Studies at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School. He is also an adjunct faculty member at Florida International University where he teaches courses in digital crimes and Director of the Cybersecurity Master’s program at St. Thomas University School of Law.
