Chief Sherwin began his law‑enforcement career in 1998 with the Wichita Police Department before relocating to Minnesota in 2001. For over two decades, he served the Rochester Police Department in a range of roles— culminating in command-level leadership and a stint as Interim Chief.
During his tenure in Rochester, Sherwin spearheaded the creation of the Police Assisted Recovery (PAR) program. His leadership in that initiative earned the department the Mayo Clinic’s prestigious Shared Value Award in 2019.
In March 2022, he was appointed Chief of Police for the City of Faribault, Minnesota, where he now leads a full‑service department of 35 sworn officers serving approximately 25,000 residents. Under his leadership, the department participates in Rice County’s Police Assisted Recovery and Deflection (PARD) program, funded by a COSSUP grant to address substance use disorder through non‑arrest recovery pathways.
Chief Sherwin holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice from St. Cloud State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy’s 257th Session
