Captain Brent Kaneyuki brings 23 years of law enforcement service to the Sacramento Police Department. Raised in a military family, he lived at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Kadena Air Base in Japan, and McClellan Air Force Base. Before law enforcement, he served as an Infantry Officer in the U.S. Army and California Army National Guard. Brent graduated from the Sacramento Police Academy in 2002. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2013 and Lieutenant in 2019, with assignments in Patrol Operations, Training Division, Outreach/Recruiting, and the Personnel Services Division. In 2023, he was promoted to Captain and now leads the Metro Division, which includes SWAT, K9, Air Operations,Traffic, EOD, CNT, and the IMPACT Team. He is a POST-Certified Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and Physical Training Instructor. Brent has been an Honor Guard member since 2006. He is an Adjunct Professor at American River College and current President of the Sacramento Asian Peace Officers Association. He holds a B.S. from San José State University and an M.S. from the University of San Diego. He enjoys family time and is an avid runner who has completed 26 marathons, including 4 Boston Marathons.
