Report Writing Reimagined: AI-Powered Reporting for Smarter Policing

Generative artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming policing by addressing long-standing challenges in report writing and documentation. By analyzing complex data—such as body-worn camera footage—AI helps generate clear, accurate, and timely reports, thereby enhancing investigations, prosecutions, and clearance rates. Although report writing is essential, it is often time-consuming and mentally taxing, particularly following high-stress incidents. AI supports officers by improving report quality, reducing fatigue, and freeing time for community engagement. This session also examines ethical, legal, and operational considerations—including human oversight, data privacy, and bias mitigation—to ensure the responsible and effective use of AI in law enforcement.
